In my last video, “Cyberpunk Edgerunners is OVERRATED”, I reviewed and analyzed the hit anime based on the game Cyberpunk 2077. After some criticism and discussion, I’ve rewatched the anime to see if I missed anything and reevaluate my review and critiques. Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners overrated? Or was I wrong??

17.06.2023I stopped watching after 8 episodes and didn't care to finish it. I was looking for the same insight because most people liked it very much. I'm in the minority but yeah, it didn't give that much character development for a bunch of characters in 10 episodes. Should've just stuck with david, lucy as the main characters. For support characters: maine, d's mother, and the doc (who had very little screen time but had great impact on david's transformation). Adding rebecca is also great but with a 10 episode limit, focusing on the main character's development would be the first priority.

11.06.2023So your biggest complaint is that there's not more of it? That sounds pretty good to me

11.06.2023I really liked this anime.
Biggest post-watch depression i had since a long time.
I only have 2 things that kinda annoy me:
1: We have incredibly written characters, especially in only 10 episodes, but also some, who i instantly disliked/didn't care for, even tho the anime trying to give me signals that this character is important.
like with Dhorios dead, or Kiwis betrayal.
2:The ending.
I like it, i really do, but i hate the fact that David got smashed by Adam. The entire series it got hinted at, that David will become a cyberpsycho.
He kinda did, but Lucy was enough to bring him out of it, so Adam had to end him.
I honestly wouldn't change the core ending, that David finds his end, but maybe he defeats Adam? Maybe escapes? But withers down on his own cyberpsychos.

11.06.2023This show animation makes one punch man season 2 look like berserk Manga art. The show is better than the average show, but that's it for me.

11.06.2023Bro I can't even finish it 1 time, I'm on episode 7 and every time I turn it on, it feels boring.

11.06.2023Well I finished it and the message in the end was David only won all this time because he had op gear compared to all his enemys and then he got smoked my atomsmasher who had worse gear. Rip Bozo

11.06.2023I think Pee Lard had one of the most important death.
1. He has been shown to be the heart of the group. By this I mean the guy that helps everyone relax, glues the group together, he's there at every group activities, befriends the new guy almost instantly. Basically the social guy of group. So his death made it harder for everyone to keep their shit together.
2. He was the warning on how dangerous cyberpsychosis can be same with Nigtcity. Just making fun of a drugged up homeless guy can be a detath sentence here.
3. Due to the fist two points combined his death chaused the fall of the gang. If he was there as the heart of the group, Maine could have probably held out longer, bechause he most deffinetly lowered the stress they all faced even in dangerous missions. Meaning they most likely coul have extracted all information without any problems.

08.06.2023It is a great show. I hate when series are getting way too long, however, the biggest mistake of this one was that it was too short. They should've spent more time with it´s characters. Last episodes were too rushed.

08.06.2023You are a true fan you talk about the good and the bad in your first video don’t let these haters get to you please make more videos like the first one I get what you meant on the only bad I got to say about the show it was too short

08.06.2023I know this is a 3 week old vid but to be fair, "over rated" and "overhype" are pretty similar, but I would admit that cyberpunk is overhyped, however I don't think it was over rated 9 or 10/10 easily.

08.06.2023Update. No. You were not wrong. The show is dogshit

08.06.2023It’s ok to have your own opinion. I could see how some people might not like a show because it isn’t slow. But sometimes you don’t need to go into every characters backstory. If you actually think about it. Only bad story writers do that. Not every character should explain everything to you. You need the shows actions to be the story. Less dialogue and more in the moment reactions and actions explain everything. Every character shouldn’t be introduced but shown who they are but how they act.
The reason why characters die is because it is part of the lore. Cyberpunk is a board game like d&d where you can die very quickly and everyone can die. It wouldn’t really be cyberpunk if no one died. It’s about consequences for your actions. No risk, no reward. But if you keep playing the game eventually you will die. It’s more about living in the moment. That’s why characters don’t live very long. It’s teaching you a lesson about survival and what you should be really living for in life. Lucy shouldn’t have been living to go to the moon but to find David and live a life with him. They could have retired and lived a lovely life. But she wanted more. In the end she sacrificed too much for her dream. At some point your adventure should be over and the sun sets on a happy adventure or power and greed will destroy all.

07.06.2023I think Edgerunners might be my favourite show of all time, but you make some good, strong points in this video and I don't understand how anyone could be mad with you. You're clearly not being hateful and as you say, people like different things. I'd stick around and watch more of your vids, but I think I'll have to be back in the future because I don't want spoilers for AOT or Chainsaw Man! Keep doing you and never let criticism put you off being truthful!

07.06.2023"When did I mislead the viewer"
You knew what you were doing with that title and thumbnail. That's fine, nothing wrong with trying to get clicks. Not owning up to it and playing stupid is fucking annoying. The mental gymnastics you used are something you would expect to hear from a toddler.

07.06.2023The nihilism of the show kinda ruins all the good things it does. 0/10 could have been great

07.06.2023since the removal of the Star rating i guess i'll like. you made some great criticisms for the show. i myself rate the show a 9/10 i do agree most of the characters were under utilized for what we got but feel it was a great show for what we not only got but could expect from a 10 episode studio trigger anime.

07.06.2023No. Moving on
Keiichi81
07.06.2023I watched the first 4 episodes and they did nothing for me. I say that as an anime fan who had played and enjoyed CP2077 prior to watching the series and been interested in the Cyberpunk IP for long before that, so by all rights this series was practically made for me.
My chief complaint is that the show just moves too fast, doesn't give scenes the appropriate time to really settle before moving on, and did absolutely nothing to introduce the world to anyone who wasn't already familiar with it. I was watching it with a friend who already isn't big on anime and wasn't familiar with the Cyberpunk IP (so in other words, it was a miracle he even agreed to watch it, but the hype and praise surrounding it had been enough for him to give it a shot), and I was constantly having to explain things being referenced. He thought "choom" was someone's name, had no idea what eddies were, what a BD was, why people's eyes would sometimes glow and then sparks would start shooting out of someone, why Lucy was laying naked in a bathtub full of ice, etc. All things introduced in the series with no explanation. So watching it, I was constantly aware of how confusing things had to be for newcomers, because I knew every time some new phrase, concept, or tech was introduced with no setup that I'd have to explain what it was after the episode ended.
We both saw people putting Edgerunners in the same tier as Arcane, which was something both of us had absolutely loved, so we went in with high expectations and came out disappointed.
I wouldn't even rate what I saw of it as "good" let alone a "masterpiece". It was okay at best. F–kin fight me.

07.06.2023The anime is pretty but if you've seen anime for 1 yr or more then you know where the stories heading…. I'm sorry but it was so boring and hard to attach to any characters, David was boring,Lucy is okay. I was cheering for Adam Smasher when he ended the whole thing. This in no way is a masterpiece. Like I said it's extremely meh and predictable. And also Devilman Crybaby did it first and way better….
Michał Jakubowski
07.06.2023The show is definitely good but its 10 episodes nature causes, that after finishing watching it you (maybe) fell satisfied, as plot came to the end. However it leaves this feeling of not being completely sated. 2 more episodes should have sufficed, but I’m not really sure were to add them. In a sense the story before and after time skip is completed. That’s at least my personal feeling. Oh and it made me want to play Cyberpunk, as well as gave me PTSD and hysteria attacks following its ending so…. It’s definitely a really good show but not masterpiece yet.

07.06.2023I feel like you understand the game a lot better after playing the game. Which i had to have the game after watching the anime
Mechanical Menace
07.06.2023I actually think you're being way too generous. David and Lucy had zero personality. Them being inherently unlikeable? Yeah, that's fine. Fits the cyberpunk theme. Would be better than what we got. But walking away from the show with more of a feeling about who Falco and Pilar were says a lot. The show was good. David and Lucy stopped it being great.

05.06.2023Well the story is exceedingly 1 dimensional. Usually I hate Rebecca's trope character, however here she is without a doubt the best of show and gets way too little screen time.
That being said the animation is great, really love the soundtrack, and its a fun watch. But definitely no Vinland Saga.
adam
05.06.2023I think people got swept up in the hype more than anything and there are some glaring flaws the second you start to break down motivations, characters and a few other things… very much a great surface level sheen but if you spend literally any time just looking at it and or picking it apart for a minute… you realize the turkey is over-cooked, dry and the stuffing is made of newspaper.

05.06.2023It's a pretty meh series. I couldn't even finish it, i even broke my rule of "if the first episode is boring i quit" i watched FIVE fucking episodes and i had to force myself to reach that far. Nothing ever happens in the stupid show besides a lot of irrelevant neon lighted violence.

05.06.2023im not really into anime but decided to check it out since i heard it was amazing, but i tend to agree, it was ok. the extreme gore and nudity isn't really my thing so the lack of proper character building really was noticeable for me. it had a cool style and good music, but other than that… meh

05.06.2023I'd straight up watch DB, DBZ, and DBGT rather than the 10 episodes of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, that's how much I hate it.

05.06.2023Wanting viewers to be jaded towards characters is objectively bad writing. There's no wiggle room around that. With a story like this that is greatly character driven, the viewers perception of characters is at the upmost importance. How can a series expect you to follow the life of a person without being interested in that person. Its a fundamental of storytelling. We see in a story like jba that a fast pace and compelling characters can be done at the same time

05.06.2023I really enjoyed Edgerunners, it was well acted, well animated and the plot was solid. I liked the characters and felt the weight of their deaths. The soundtrack was very good, but all the people saying that it gave them depression, leave me really confused and like I missed something. I mean, it was sad when Lucy and David died, but was I bawling my eyes out? Did their deaths give me a literal mental illness? I can't say that they did.

05.06.2023feel like the buildup issues could be fixed with one more episode where they put a little more time into each event of the montage in ep 4

05.06.2023you were more right the first time, TBH. You can see a Christ in mold on a wall, same here. If you start looking at C:E long enough, you might see some character development or sensible story there. It's 6/10 by itself, 7/10 because we didn't get anything fresh and good lately, 8/10 if you're really into CP themes etc. That's as high as it gets, and let no amount of brain-damaged fanboys convince you otherwise, mate.

05.06.2023You broke under comments pressure. This show is just 7/10. Good but not great.
8/10 is great which this show has many flaws to deserve that rating.
Most of the mob hating your previous video are just that a mob. brainless and follow the common opinion as law.

05.06.2023It ran too fast for me to emotionally attach to any character. It’s an issue I have with certain anime movies, too. I need time to learn the intricacies of a character to appreciate their message and the impact of their deaths. Also, after watching **certain KyoAni shows**, it takes a lot to get me emotional.

05.06.2023So what ended up being your anime of the year? Personally the anime of the year for me was by far Bocchi the Rock, but I’m not sure what your tolerance is for that sort of show
Jan Malawski
05.06.2023I haven't watched your previous video but here is my own small criticism of Edgerunners.
I dropped this anime after first episode…why? Because on barebone level the very first episode portrays this as another boring underdog anime story where MC is bullied at school, loses his only family and at the end finds some power up that can help him overcome his problems. Maybe next episodes are better, I have no idea, but I won't waste time if you don't care about good first impression.
