08.05.2023The show really fixed my opinion on Adam because after playing the game on normal and slamming him into the floor with rare grade Gorilla Arms only I just ended up laughing at how weak he was

08.05.2023you shou do a deepdive retrospective into adam smasher. in the original cyberpunk tabletop games adam smasher is a very prominent figure (he has been a robot killer for a hundred years by the time of the anime) so you get more backstory on who he was before he was a robot and maybe go into what could've changed him when he had the accident before becoming a cyborg

08.05.2023Do you think the same logic of fear that you apply to Adam smasher applies to anti gun activists?
Dan Gerszewski
08.05.2023In the original source material they talk about using intensive braindance-driven therapy to help people who get what would otherwise be completely sanity-smashing levels of cyberware (basically all full-body conversation cyborgs) reach if not a healthy mental state at least a controllable and goal-driven one not a randomly violent one. A video on what potential braindance would open up for therapy would be SUPER fascinating.
Likewise their descriptions of cyberpsychosis in the source material make for interesting reading. It's not just that chrome inherently causes extreme dysmorphia, it's also that your capabilities are so extreme you start to get frustrated with the world around you. Looking at just how that could happen would be a fascinating video too! The example they give is someone with an "always on" Kerenzikov nerve booster: everyone around you moves really, really slowly. One day you get a little too frustrated with someone not moving in line fast enough so you shove them, only you have hydraulic presses for arms and move at superhuman speed so to you a 'shove' is actually going to throw the guy into a wall so hard he splatters. Then people start screaming 'cyberpsycho!' because you just killed a guy in line at the bank, maybe security draws guns, maybe a civilian does, you have to defend yourself. Then MaxTac shows up and starts firing 20mm cannons through the windows at you. End result? 20 people dead (most of them killed by police cannon fire) and another report on NetNews 54 about the cyberpsycho epidemic, and it all started with a guy too slow in line at the bank.

08.05.2023It's been so weird watching every single one of these videos about Edgerunners featuring clips of the dubbed version. I can't take it seriously. xD
That said, the actors clearly did a phenomenal job!

05.05.2023smasher is an ex gangster soldier merc who love to kill for fun refuses jobs with low deaths or collateral damage as that is his favourite kind of contracts the more death the better he became a cyborg and over time came to hate humans or fleshbags as he calls them an unstoppable killing machine for Arasaka nightcity fears him smasher only kind of fears 1 man the merc of millaTec called morgan blackhand
thefanification 2
05.05.2023it doesn't help that what is known about adam smasher is always terrifying, his death count, the fact that noone who arasaka has sicced him on has survived, the fact he fought the best of the solos, morgan blackhand and survived, if not killed him, AND johnny silverhand. just as a few examples, which doubling back to point 2 is why he is so terrifying, if you see him in combat you know you not only messed up, but messed up so bad you angered the arasaka family themselves
Obiberts66
05.05.2023I feel like Adam Smasher respected David's decision to die rather than become a lab rat. In response to David's last words, Smasher gave him a warrior's death – a better fate
BigDady959
05.05.2023That's a good video, better than what I expected when I clicked on it. That being said, I have to kinda disagree about the fact that Adam has no humanity. In a sense, in the universe of Cyberpunk, he may be one of the person with the most humanity, or maybe should I say at least a really strong sense of self. For in the ttrpg, implants are based on the Humanity stat, each time you get one you loose some Humanity because you start to question what you really are and what a human really is, without getting into all de details. To keep sane, you either go to a medical center to get treated and work on yourself, or, in the case of rare individuals like Adam, you're so certain of what you are that you could never imagine not being you just because you changed body parts for a few implants.
To conclude, I'm not saying that Adam is the most empathic man alive or anything, but that he is so very certain of who he is, wathever happens to his body, that he's still human. If he was not, he would have succumbed to cyberpsychosis a long time ago. Not having a strong sense of self / humanity doesn't do well with implants.

05.05.2023Dam your so on point,
2019 boogieman = COVID

05.05.2023Adam was always pyschotic, he was a mercenary he always took jobs with a high possiblity of civilian casualties. Before he was all cyborg he tanked an RPG and by some miracle he survived. He was nothing but mush and meat arasaka came and offered him to build him a cyborg body with the latest tech and weapons in exchange for his undying loyalty and servitude to adam it was a no Brainer he didn't care as long as could do what he loves to do
prod.ELOKX
05.05.2023Damn, so smasher gave David the option to save him and turn him into a construct probably similar to himself, and David was like nope??
Sereghost
05.05.2023I'm super late but I question how Adam would have reacted, had he let David personally kill Faraday in his own "None leave the slaughterhouse" moment
Blindluck92
05.05.2023I watched Edgerunners with a friend who had a vast amount of knowledge regarding the original ttrpg Cyberpunk as well as Shadowrun. They spent a lot of time explaining the minutiae of how compatibility works, and why Adam Smasher is just ridiculously compatible and on a payroll that can cover the cost of his likely insane supply of immunosuppressants.
But we couldn't ever reach a conclusion of what determines stupidly high compatibility. By rights, David should have just nosedived right over the edge the second he strapped himself into that monstrosity, never mind actually using it and the sandevistan for as long as he did.
And for Adam to be a level of "more machine than man" that would put Darth Vader to shame? Well, the only way all this works at the same time without tossing the word "plot armor" up and calling it a day is basically: psychology.
David did care. Obviously. It's why he was losing his mind. He had a mind to lose in the first place. Humanity cannot fit into a box, and so the options are go insane or die.
A complete sociopath who dropped his humanity like a hot rock a long time ago fits nicely with literally whatever metal and code you plug into his head. Adam is safe from losing his mind by sheer virtue of not giving a damn and not having much to lose in the first place.
Which is why David got as far as he did. Lucy was being hurt, threatened, and worse. He wasn't thinking, wasn't caring, he just saw red and suddenly it became a simple, albeit imperfect, fit. "Acquire target. Extract VIP. Kill target because very angry."
He never planned to get away from Adam alive. He spent the last of his truly intact mind paying the others in advance to get Lucy the hell out while he died literally laughing at the devil.
Because bogeyman or not, if you accomplished everything you set out to do, then you win, and the big bad monster has to take that loss and swallow it.
And until V comes along, Adam will never forget that he couldn't even instill despair in a mere boy.

04.05.2023Spot on your point. That the less Adam smasher is shown and speaks. Gives a stronger perspective of horror. Knowledge lessons the horror.

04.05.2023They are working on ai based death machines and also gearing for more war..

04.05.2023I think you hit the nail on the head. Hes not even that strong in the game.
Adam Freeman
04.05.2023Fun fact: Adam Smasher actually did have at least one girl he loved, Michiko Arasaka. She was the daughter of Adam Smasherβs employer, Kei Arasaka. He actually had a special cyborg body made that looked more like a human body. Specifically what he used to look like before becoming a cyborg. He would use this body when they went out on dates.

04.05.2023Smasher did have love a girl in the Arasaka family who he did love but eventually did give her up cause nobody liked how well the girl and smasher bonded

04.05.2023He is a textbook case of someone who is a highly intelligent psychopath that went into the army and eventually went full cyborg.

03.05.2023His coping mechanism for cyberpsychosis is murder.
Rainman Slim
03.05.2023I don't think I've ever seen a show do justice to a villain like edgerunners did to Adam Smasher.
They built him up and his goddamn introduction was him backing up his cockyness by showing even at David's peak, he's nothing against smasher, and smasher proceeds to wipe the floor with EVERYONE. In the end, to him, it was just a fun night out as our heroes lie dead all around him.
Chills. That's how you do a villain right.
Rubeus Archos
03.05.2023i going point out Davids metal state was not stable and in the end he payed for it with his life. people whose get to this point have nothing to fear cause they already been comsumed with a mind set that eliminates fear. fear is some thing that protect you.. with out it we are just flowing in world with out warning.
TheLionheart2477
02.05.2023Honestly with everything I've read of the Smasher… he's more human with all that chrome than he ever was before, and thats only cause he's on a leash.
James Lind
02.05.2023The thing i kinda liked about the Adamsmasher fight is here is David, loosing it to cyber psychosis, which plays into that disconnect with humanity, Adam smasher super high functioning before all the chrome is there enough to start breaking him down to being no different from anyone else compared to him during the fight, and david seemingly stepping back a bit form the brink of full cyber psycosis.
spaceelfdimp4
02.05.2023Part of me likes the idea of cyber psychosis from an rpg perspective because it balances the power of chrome so that way your character is still reliant on their stats but the chrome supplements the characters stats but if you go too far your screwed
ghostface
02.05.2023I loved watching adam butchering those clowns
But he could have done way more than just that
I would have shown him what fun is
Bob Skywalker
02.05.2023Adam doesnβt really even care about the mission. He just likes killing.
Irregular Game Night
02.05.2023David was no hero, out for justice. but just another edgerunner out for revenge. He ended the same way everyone else in Cyberpunk does. Not special.
Flufflez
02.05.2023Adam was a vicious killer long before he had his first chrome implant. My man used to request missions where no one would care if innocent civilians die
Z Lunare
02.05.2023"I thought you'd be taller." Georgia knows her Halo.
Lorn Baker
02.05.2023Apparently Adam smasher is Also a huge fan of elvis presley and even has A spare body anatomically correct in the form of elvis only with blonde hair. I believe He used that body when he didn't want to be noticed In public as himself. And also when he was dating the granddaughter of the head of the company. Apparently even monsters have heroes who they look up to.
