Cyberpunk: Edgerunners gave us an astoundingly memorable experience in just 10 episodes! Despite this, there are a handful of inconsistencies within the story. Here are the biggest plot holes in Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk edgerunners is nothing short of a masterpiece. Just like David flew higher than he ever thought he could, this show managed to fly its way to nearly the top of my favorite shows of all time! It’s not without its fair share of plot holes though. In this short video, I’ll break down every major plot hole in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

17.10.2022LMAOOOOO as an EMT you have nooooo idea how many of us don’t have insurance
Zachary Walker
17.10.2022Non of these are plot holes tbh, emt with no insurance. Insurance like even today by in far linked to your job. I'm not 100% on this but emts even today are woefully underpaid and I have a hard time believing they get any benefit beyond that other than the gov programs that give affordable health care insurance. And if seen those plans they arnt the best. Second people changing or doing exactly what they preach against is the irony of life. It happens literally all the time. While it's a bit exaggerated here it's still accurate imo. To me it shows a pretty deep understanding of people on general. Same with a smart kid not doing what is best for him. Even tho he's smart it's still him in the middle.of his life making the best decisions he can make without hindsight. The cycle they are showing is a trap of being special which many people who are special and smart like that fall into, just because one is smart and quick to pick things up dosent mean they are self reflective enough or wise enough to "break the wheel" of the larger picture especially since the entire show he's in one scarcity tunnel or another. They arnt plot holes they are commentary on life and how things get away from you. I think the biggest plot hole I don't fully understand was the part where Lucy kicks Faraday instead of killing him and I agree with your assessment there.
GandolfdaBlaq
17.10.2022Idk all the “plot holes” you mentioned make sense. You think too much. The moreso character flaws more than anything. With David it’s as if you never been a young impressionable man hopped up on grief, testosterone, the lack of a father , and some toxic loving from a mysterious girl with a sketchy past.
solv1n
17.10.2022The one thing that I don't see people disagreeing with is that David has chosen the wrong girlfriend. Love it.
Twelve Seal
17.10.2022pretty sure all of those holes described in the survey are intentional.

17.10.2022With the sandevistan it seems to be implied that fir whatever reason the implants aren't tracked I'd imagine certain people of note are but not individual implants I think in univers this would be because of how much of a waist tracking every part would be when that number could be well into the billions or even trillions making it just impractical its a weird thing but there are several parts of the cyberpunk universe that don't really add up

17.10.2022So David's mother, she wasn't a part of Maine's crew, she was a fence selling cyberware that she could get her hands on, she didn't have health insurance because corpo isn't responsible for providing health benefits anymore its on the individual, and with pouring most of her earnings into David's Future could barely afford anything else, my man David couldn't even finish a load of laundry! Not having anyone to help her in the end did suck but as we found out Night City is HUGE and Maine and his crew were not aware of her death at the time. Lucy's actions on one hand yes are very odd, but this radical change could be due to the theory that David is still stuck in JKs Brain Dance, but this is not confirmed. The reason that David goes down the same path as Maine is to show that most people cant escape the cycle, and because he feels indebted to his Mother and Maine as he feels that they left their dreams and legacy to him and he has no other choice but to keep pushing forward. Becca best girl, that's all I got.

17.10.2022So my wife and I both work for a hospital. Premium insurance is still costly so if shes getting low pay (which unfortunately in our world today EMTs get crap pay for what they do) its possible that she got a cheaper Healthcare package to send him to saka school. The sandevistan was militech falcon not arasaka and they may have masked the sandi so it couldn't be traced. And I think the car scenes where it was making illogical movments was a shot at the game cause driving is weird in there lol.

16.10.2022There is actually one more big one. The CyberSkelton makes no sense. Not in how it works mind you but more in that it's name maes no sense. Beacuse it's NOT actually a Cyberskeleton which is a properly named Implant you can find in 2077. In fact the CyberSkeleton is competlly missnamed/Missrepresented. It's correct term is Linear Frame. WHich is what it SHOULD be. But it's not called or desginated as such and Arasaka never specifies that's what it is even when speaking of it.
Calling it a 'CyberSkeleton' is very strange as it's not what it even IS. It being called that isn't as much the issue as it is, that waht it's showcased as is clearly a Linear Frame going by the tabletop. So why is it called something it's not?
It's quite possible if your simulation/BD theory is correct, the one putting David through it, doesnt' know exactly what it is, only what Arasaka tells him it is and he's forced to make it up on the fly. It's the only thing that explains why it's complelty misnamed and desginated wrong and why it's not even remtoly mentioned as a Linear Frame.
DEAD NATS
16.10.2022…. I think the show is only showing what's real an what's not hear me out.
My theory everything that happened before was real but until David got captured an thrown in the bd by……forgot the gonks name, "the purple guy" everything that happened after was a bd created by "the purple guy" meaning the crew made a deal with arasaka to leave David in the bd, an Maine gave orders to the crew to leave him to get back on the payroll (arasaka).
The reason why I'm saying this is because everything that happened after was glitches from David's perspective an cyberpsychosis, maybe it wasn't cyberpsychosis, but a bd that was being created by "the purple guy" cuz when "the purple guy" died he looked at only David with a smile like he knew David was screwed from the start.
Example: David tripped on the floor while nothing was there…..seriously..if looked at that cutsence again he tripped on nothing while using his sandy in a fight against "the purple guy's" bots why is that ?

16.10.2022So the EMT not having good health insurance was a deliberate choice on her part. She had the option to upgrade it by paying extra but she refused so she could have more money to pay for David's education. When David found out about this it added onto his self-loathing because he internally believed he killed his mom. That's also part of the reason he dropped out. That school was the reason she died and it just reminded him of how she killed herself for him.

16.10.2022david choices was the only thing that brothered me. they explained lucy's switch in personility in the show. and RIP rebecca

16.10.2022I ended up thinking that Gloria wasn't actually an EMT but like a crime scene mortuary assistant or a morgue worker. All the people working with her have the iconic neon yellow coat, but the other ambulance worker that tries to sell out David (a living patient) later on has a much darker orange jacket in the same style. This would also sorta explain a more ready access to implants to sell from corpses than actual living patients. In a similar vein I thought the sandy that David has was militech not arisaka? Cyberpsyco Chuck Norris was in the NUSA military so I thought Arisaka's data on the sandy was stolen and their interest in it was more from the viewpoint of the exoskeleton, so I doubt they can track it.
KENYON WILLIAMS
16.10.2022Yeah it is weird that Gloria didn't have health insurance despite being a emt I'm a house keeper at a hospital I get insurance 😐

16.10.2022Nice, let's run these down then. 1. A frequent theme in Cyberpunk is the real life issue of employees not having access to the product and service they provide. People in cyberpunk are frequently not paid enough to afford their own service, and sometimes are directly barred from it because "conflict of interest". This is a problem in real life, not a plot hole. Also, she died in less than a day before anyone in the edgerunners that could check on her did. 2. Had more typed past this, but the 'plotholes' fall into the same routine from here. If you liked the show as much as you claim, you'd watch it and pay more attention. Also, read your employee contracts more carefully and plan your monthly and yearly budgets better IRL.

16.10.2022it was odd when they said she was doing fine then just up and say it didnt work out for her something seems off she all so had that upgrade she took off that guy be odd for her to have that to guess will find out more all i know is they had to have made this backstory for reasons i still say they will do a season 2 when the dlc drops for 2023 lets hope something will be clear

15.10.2022Imagine if David was still in a sim💀
DRAGON X
15.10.2022Well since i have watch the movie earlier the biggest plot hole for me was why is lucy attached to david so much but i have seen now why she is so attached to him because of her dream going to compared to rebecca which she only plays with guns and she is much more aggressive than lucy
Arcane Furor
15.10.2022I think Kiwi's betrayal was sparked by Maine snapping and slapping ghe shit out of her, nearly killing her. The payout was huge, high risk, but so was staying in business. Sure, Maine's been dead when she does betray, but she's around other cyberjocks who are destined to the same fate. It was her out.
Though going straight there and not expecting Faraday to just dispose of her was dumb. I was thinking of it as it was unfolding from the moment faraday was arranging a meetup. She deserved it though.
Manuel Mehltretter
15.10.20221) Its Cyberpunk, insurance is cracy expensive, everybody wants it, only the elites can afford it
2) Its Cyberpunk, never trust a soul and only look after yourself – so runners dont help for free and probably would have been to late anyways
3) David is Trauma-tized (hehe get it?) he doesnt have a goal and inherits the goals from his Mom and Mayne
4) Lucy is also Re-Traumatized by her near loss of David in Episode 6, which is a kind of Betrayal for her
5) It is a common trope in Cyberpunk that either a team member or the fixer f**cks you up hard, also I think that Farraday had more leverage than just Money and Runners sooner or later want an out and will grab it by any means
6) Ok yeah she could have gone for Faraday but she was captured and killed two and got out, I think that was everything you could expect of someone in that Situation
7) There are no happy endings
So I dont realy see any of the points you made as plotholes. They are necesarry for drama and believable, as they are common in the setting.

15.10.2022she was cutting costs trying to save as much as possible for davids school
Mikołaj Kraszewski
15.10.2022As to why Kiwi betrayed the crew I believe that there just might be some story between her and Faraday, that Faraday's got something on her that forces her to cooperate with him. It's my first thought, even though it is not even suggested in the show.
George Maisuradze
15.10.2022Why is it a plot hole and why working as an EMT means she got to have a coverage? I'm surprised they don't have a police subscription.
rabbit859
15.10.2022David's mom DID have insurance. The doctor addressed that in his first conversation with David, when he said "visitation isn't part of her package".
The problem, like with basically every EMT in the real world, is that a catastrophic injury like the one she had isn't going to be sufficiently covered by the sh*t tier insurance that a private company EMT gets.
Knowing you should have better medical coverage doesn't magically give you the ability to pay for it when you already don't have enough to pay all your bills and have to do illegal sh*t to send your kid to school.
I am 1000% with you on driving with the sandevistan, though. That was nonsense.
Sparky's Tech Corner
15.10.20221 bad take, 2 missed the point of the show at the beginning, couldn’t even pay for their own washer,…. Scrapping together anything for David’s school, their car literally falling apart, dirt poor trying to make it, that was the point, not a plot hole🤦♂️ as far as the others, didn’t bother watching if 1 was that far off the mark, read the pen and paper lore

15.10.2022I mean. All of those are just tropes. It's anime after all. Maybe not animes have tropes but a big percentage have. And Edgerunners is no exception.

13.10.2022I mean health insurance is expensive when i was making like 1k a week insurance took half that if i had to pay rent buy clothes etc i would not be having health insurance rather take the lot and provide as long as i could

13.10.2022These are not plot holes. When you choose to implant your body with cybernetics that is already a counter to what is the norm. Many life circumstances led them to where they are which is essentially surviving in a world that has no defined use for them.
AuspexAO
13.10.20221. She can't afford premium insurance and put a kid through school
2. Being "wild and independent" is what you are when you have nothing you care about and nothing to lose. Once she starts seeing her life being at risk (David being taken and her life being exposed) she starts acting like most people do.
3. Kiwi betrayed the crew because Farraday was her lover. It's not super obvious, but he hints at it several times. Yeah, she makes the same mistake as she said not to…that's the point. She even basically says as much.
4. David had no choice but to chrome up. Being an Edgerunner is a path to death. He thinks he's special. That's also said a million times in the anime.
5. Some of those are valid points. I don't understand the car jump thing, ha ha. As for Lucy being tracked down by Arasaka…that's what she's doing when she kills those dudes. She's keeping herself and David safe from Arasaka. She has been on the run her whole life, yes, but she's also an expert at wiping out trails left online.
Zyphernetic
13.10.2022Ahhh yes, these are not but holes but curiosities my dear bumper. Grab a chair, choom! Here's some nova explanations.
"Aww yeah, Ms. Martinez's death was a sad one but you gotta realize that Gloria was working in a clinic in Santa Domingo, Arroyo. Ofcourse the Trauma team would've been the first to the wreckage but they only help platinum membership holders which means the wreckage was bigger than they imagined. It's odd for them to respond without any type of distress signal. Gloria was not a Platinum member so they did not tend to her wounds. Which means local response teams such as the team that Gloria works for isn't as quick in response as the Trauma team."
"Lucy was trained by Kiwi so its natural for Lucy to not be able to tell David everything. Imagine being taught things that meant life or death and abide by them just for some kid you just met and fell in love with coming into your life. You want to tell him everything but you're conflicted between your mentor's teachings and wanting to help David. The greatest irony is that the teachings that Kiwi taught to Lucy ended up catching up to her and getting her killed in the end. I feel as its the greatest thing to see is that Kiwi had her flaws and tried to play both sides for the odds of survival, only to be killed by goons sent by Faraday. The thing is Lucy caught feelings for David and it changed her mood completely. She wanted to be with David but was conflicted until the very end where she saw him going all out to make sure she was safe in the very end. All that regret lives on within her now."
"Again in the next segment, Kiwi played the board for survival. She didn't trust a soul. This is true but again, being with the crew changed her slightly. All in all, she had formality with Faraday and a looooooong formality if you catch my drift. Some say that Kiwi was in love with Faraday and kept him on open comms in her mind. But at the end of the day, it ended up trusting Faraday but it didn't go well. So..as a last parting gift before he demise, she gave up Faraday's AV with Lucy in it with David's crew. Blood for Blood right? She was betrayed, He gets betrayed right back."
"David's choices were one of a true Edgerunner. David didn't have much left after his mother died. The choices he's made were almost natural for him. He chose this life and didn't regret it. He didn't want out but embraced the lifestyle now that he was on his own. I feel like a change in lovers wouldn't have mattered that much since being a edgerunner was all about running the risks and Arasaka had sights on David since his first video capture of him using the sandevistan at the academy. David's life was rocked upside down sure but he was still surrounded by people he cared about dying left and right. His humanity was taking a dive as he continued to install new cyberware but his heart and mind was on Lucy who was holding back. All in all, they were both meant for eachother but the circumstances weren't built to be a happy ever after story. Wrong people, Wrong City…"

13.10.2022My wife is a nurse. She has terrible insurance and obscene prices. It could be more of that. Her plan didn’t even allow her visitors.
It could also be that she made sure every last cent went to David’s tuition. Hours after her death, we start seeing she was months past due on rent, bills, etc.
All your other points I agree with.

13.10.2022I feel like what you call "plot holes" arent really plot holes, there are plenty of context clues about what's going on to give you the answers you want… If I had to guess you probably make too many analysis videos that you dont take the time to enjoy the show anymore.
1. David's mother was very clear about spending EVERYTHING she had to make her son a corpo. It makes perfect sense for his mom not to have insurance as she would want the spare cash. Kids tease David about his mother being a doll to afford his classes, and even David is aware of how bad their situation is… Once its revealed she was working with edge runners the audience already knew the facts and this was little more than a sigh of relief to spare the audience the heartbreak of finding out she chose an alternative path such as being a doll to raise the extra cash.
2. Lucy's choices she made are for the most simplistic reason.. She loves him.. She fell for him so she sought to protect him from the truth thinking she could fight the war alone and pushed him away because she couldnt watch him killing himself hoping he would stop.
3. Kiwis betrayal was less about money and more about picking the "winning" side…
4. David didnt pick the wrong girl… Lucy was his unicorn that he couldnt let go and was willing to give up the world for her.. Lucy equally cared about David that's why she left the group and was hoping he would follow her.. She couldnt stand to see him like that and he had to do everything he could to get her to the moon.

13.10.2022There's a theory in regards to the second one that someone mentioned. There's a possibility that David wasn't saved and that from the moment of the rescue is where the simulation started.
