I think Kiwi also grew pretty distant and traumatized from Maine going cyber psycho and may have felt his successor will eventually go down that path too. So her goal is to be completely financially covered so she could be out of her line of work entirely.
What didn’t make much sense to me was that Kiwi herself said in night city you mustn’t trust anyone het she trusted Faraday. I think that was a bit of a plot hole as she might be the smartest character in the show and yet didn’t except a dude like that to double cross her??
RIP. Is there anyone who won't betray you? Beside Rebecca. No wonder everybody wants out of that city. Can't imagine the rest of the planet is any better.
They needed another episode or two to really flesh out Kiwi's turn, it's too sudden and felt a bit contrived, Falco being a real one for understanding it and not being mad, it's just the way it is in Night City.
Kiwi plays the city's rules. I hate that she betrayed the gang, I like her a lot. I think Kiwi was the most frustrated to Maine and Dorio's deaths, yeah Maine punched the hell out of her, but he was under psychosis. When David took control of the gang and Lucy stopped working with them, Kiwi had all the Netrunning responsabilities on her own, and she probably didn't like the way David and Becca approached missions: instead of sneaking in silently, they just go inside the building shooting around and giving her sudden orders to hack tons of enemies, turrets and stuff. In other terms, she was working her ass off during the timeskip. She regretted pulling this shit on them before meeting with Faraday.
I don't get why people hate Kiwi for her betrayal, but conveniently forget that Lucy betrayed them as well when she killed Tanaka to hide the truth about David. She knew Trauma Team would be on their asses and she didn't care who of the crew would die as long as David made it out alive.
I feel more neutral to her death. She tried in the end though I don't even think it was out of the goodness of her heart. Most likely to just get some pay back.
She went against her own teachings, like i get it she probably was dissilusioned from the crew but come one she went on about not trusting anyone, and she decides to trust someone who not obly betrayed her former crew but militech to? I mean… come on.
I mean to be fair Maine was the one who punched her FACE off literally, so I saw the betrayal coming, especially with the whole “trust no one but yourself” quote. Loved the show loved the characters and kiwi did what she was taught. Trusted herself and her choice, just happened to be the wrong choice
I don't blame her for the betrayal at all tbh. She realised that the team was screwed and wanted out in a way that would get her a lot of money. David was ending up like Maine who basically traumatised Kiwi, Lucy was doing shady stuff, and Rebecca is kinda nuts. Falco was the only normal one.
i really liked her character but it became super obvious she would die. To me her death was really sad since she wasn't evil, she just wanted to escape this hell 🙁
I think a part of why Kiwi betrayed the group has something to do with Maine beating her unconscious.
I’m not sure how long Kiwi worked with Maine, but if her boss of some time could just beat her up out of no where if he wasn’t going psycho yet, what more the newbie who’s already showing signs of cyberpsychosis.
She got scared and she wanted out. That’s why she wanted immunity from Faraday. She wants a safe exit from that life. She’d rather betray her crew rather than be killed by them if they go psycho.
Of course it didn’t matter in the end cause Faraday double crossed her.
Initially Kiwi felt attached to the team. However, when Maine went cyberpsycho due to using too many cybernetics and David repeating the same mistakes she was afraid of her own life.
I think there's a certain quote that reminds me of this show (mainly kiwi and faradays betrayal) it's the problem with loyalty to a cause is that the cause will always betray you. David was fighting for the crew, and one of his own betrayed him and the rest for her own path. Kiwi partnered with faraday to help faraday and allow her to go own her own, only to be killed by him.
people give Kiwi flak for her actions, however as V said it in Cyberpunk 2077 "Never betray your fixer – that is the one rule everyone in NC knows and actually keeps!" Yes Kiwi made a rotten choice and yes her paying for it with her life is "just" (as this IS an eye-for-an-eye world, Edgerunners is set in), but she basically behaved like a merc, so …
Kiwi's betrayal was logical. She even told him the same thing she heard from Maine about not trusting anyone to lucy. Even if she didn't betray them and helped faraday. He would have kidnapped lucy anyway.
The group had no hope after Maine's death. Kiwi instead of betraying them. she might as well have simply abandoned them and left them to their fate.
The group was already damaged anyway. Kiwi did what any logical person would do when they know the group are coming to a cruel fate like David's.
Gotta say, the writing of this show was impressively consistent … everything they say/do lines up with everything they have been "teaching" each other …. Best way to put it… all the main characters deserve each other
