#cyberpunk2077 #cyberpunkedgerunners #edgerunners
A video about the legacy of David Martinez and how the world reacted to it. Edgerunners is an anime that first came out of Netflix and created from a collaboration with Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red. It is a prequel to the Video Game Cyberpunk 2077, set one year before the events of the game. The story revolves around David Martinez, a young street kid from Santo Domingo, Night City and his dealing in the Dark Dystopian world that he faces.

04.06.2023Yeah IDK. Occam's razor. A anime company can just fuck up an ending and a gaming company can just fail to meaningfully capitalize on an unexpectedly successful adaptation. And games and anime can really be that literarily shallow and fail to provide closure or impart meaning.

02.06.2023I personally like that David at the end, just a nobody, a lab rat and it fit to Cyberpunk universe.
He never mention anywhere beside Falco as if David's action and legecy meant nothing to Night City which it is at the end.
Same with V, V literally just a nobody and I bet that without the chip, V is below David since David is a lab rat of Arasaka.

02.06.2023V is not David’s successor. They’re just playing on the same side of the chess board. V’s fate is tragic in that a lucky dumb round that should have killed him, didn’t, but then the Relic started to take over.

02.06.2023amazing thoughts man, I am right there with you, I played the game awhile back and kind of got distracted… Finished the show last week and have gone back and restarted and it is an entirely different experience with the weight of the show so fresh in my circuits.

31.05.2023I was playing the game a couple weeks ago, and I did a side job in which V got messages from Falco about David. I had him go to that low wall and get David's jacket.
I thought it was really interesting and cool. As I watched Edgeruuners, I realized it is a prequel like you said; Rogue being at the Afterlife, and Adam Smasher being alive.
Clearly V has never heard of David, because it's likely that V was in Atlanta when David and the crew were around. Still, it shows us that there are those who will always oppose
the corporations of Night City. Both David and V are what we think of as being a Merc.

30.05.2023Before watching this video I do have a few thoughts. I like the anime but I did not like 3 major issues. 1) Villains were cartoonishly bad. They were arguably the worst part of the show: bland, stupid, and rushed. 2) There was no urgency. Meaning David literally had no justification for going as hard as he did with cybernetics. Sure if Lucy was kidnapped earlier. Then David knew then chromed to save her, his last lines to her would make sense. But he disregarded her when there was no known, to David, urgency. 3) This one will sound odd but coldness towards life. Even the game gives more thought when murdering criminals. But the show only shows empathy to friends and innocent people. There was no versatility like the game. The middle of the road or grey people who are both good and bad but understandable. No editors of XBDs, only editors not JK who committed to crimes. The cops were just bad people…I still remember the start of Street Kid route. The cop was ordered to kill you and didn't. The list goes on. Most people even gangsters have merit and you can negotiate with. But nope… kill them all.
All in all it captured most of the feel of the world. But removed some grey. The ending was forced by these 3. The bad villains that pushed the story one way. The bad response by David constantly going chrome. And yes this is bad because nearly every reactor and others I know commented the same thing in episode 7… why!? It's bad writing when it's near universal when the audience questions it. Then the final point pushed the story to David mentally fumbling. Like shooting a angel by mistake when he got use to shooting demons. The middle of the road murders would've trained him better. But apparently there was none.

30.05.2023People forget the true point of Cyberpunk according to its creator isn't saving the world or making any change but saving yourself and living in spite of a world that can kill you at any moment. Almost all the characters in Edgerunners failed this not due to a lack of ability which they all had more then enough of but because they went beyond there limits and were ether overestimating themselves and taking on more then they could take or underestimating those around them.
Pilar underestimated the homeless looking guy that was actually a cyberpsycho and started annoying him till he attacked. Maine overestimated himself and took too many implants and went cyberpsycho, Dorio thought she could bring Maine back from the brink while avoiding gun fire from multiple enemies including a hallucinating Maine. Kiwi underestimated how treacherous Reinfield was and overestimated her worth to him when the correct option would of been to stab him in the back and warn the crew the moment he turned against them with his offer to her as when dealing with someone like that everyone is disposable including you. Lucy was captured because she thought she could beat all the Arasaka netrunners on her own for an unlimited amount of time and never thought that someone might take precautions against her specifically such as laying a trap to capture her.
Rebecca was hot headed and took Adam Smasher head on rather then moving out of the way. David fell in to the trap of thinking he was special and could take any amount of cybernetics which had consequences on his mental health he then overestimated his combat abilities in the exoskeleton and underestimated Adam Smashers combat abilities especially in close quarters when that is where Adam is most dangerous. David could of survived had he engaged at distance till Lucy and Falco were safe then used the exoskeletons ability to fly to retreat.
Want to live in the Cyberpunk universe and fulfill your dreams? Know your limits and never underestimated even the most harmless looking of people.

30.05.2023V did not succeed David's dreams, because David did not have any dreams. He was the worst character in the show, he was an irresponsible, impulsive leader who led his team to death.
He betrayed his mother's dreams of having a better life.
He betrayed Maine's hopes of being a better person, a better leader than Maine was.
He betrayed Lucy's wishes of him surviving until they take a journey to the moon.
He betrayed Rebecca's trust that he won't be too reckless with the team's well-being.
This is, I believe, ultimately why Kiwi betrayed the team. As the more experienced NC veteran, she has seen where teams with a leader like David end up. While Falco stayed out of duty to Rebecca.
V was a much better person. More cautious about everything. V made sure to prep before a big job to make sure it went as well as it can. V is sought after by big name fixers because they know he won't f*** things up.
Even before the Dex Heist, he is contracted by Wakako Okada who controls the Japanese sector to rescue a VIP who hacked into the most influential corp of NC and stole a bunch of confidential data that could influence the entire world, not just NC.
(*Spoiler*) Sandra stole data that Night Corp was experimenting in regards to how to mind control people a'la the Peralez(es) quests, which is heavily implied to have rogue AIs involved (which Wakako likely knows), and slightly implied to have Morgan Blackhand backing it (which Wakako might not know) (*Spoiler*).
That was just after V was active for 6 months in NC. He wasn't a legend in the making, or a diamond in the rough, he was through and through, already legendary material, people just needed to realize it.

29.05.2023david never cared about being a legend of nightcity, what he really cared for was love and belonging. He fought and led Maine's crew in hopes that Lucy will join again by his side, and for money needed to survive. V on the other hand, cares greatly about becoming a legend. Even after getting shot in the head, V's primary goals are to survive the Relic, and to be a legend of night city

29.05.2023This is a weird complaint but the thing I hate about the game is the majority of the time you call yourself a Merc… Not a edgerunners or a cyberpunk… A fkn Merc… "Merc" is so fkn mundane

28.05.2023I played Cyberpunk earlier this year-ish or late last year and I was intermittently playing it. But after watching the anime it gave me motivation to play the game more and seriously this time. It hooked me in because it had great missions and stories behind them but then I would clock out feeling the "gaming fatigue" where after I play continuously, I have this urge to NOT want to play. This was because I mostly played Diablo 2 Resurrected and AC Odyssey for hours straight, then simultaneously with CP2077 whenever I feel like it. Part of me wants to redo CP2077 when I finish it and do a 2nd playthrough, this time with new eyes.
