I loved the game since launch and i still remember seeing announcement of them making an anime, glad after waiting 2 years it was all worth it….. but at what cost? 😭
I know everyone is saying this is after David's death but i think this before they met because of it being in the old apartment and this could just be lucy thinking about the arasaka days
lucy is secretly erasing davids data, and david is so focused on trying to grant lucy her moon trip, they were too busy to realise they had what they wanted the whole time – everything the other needed was them
I feel like Lucy is the one singing this, and considering she is still alive at the end of the series, the song lyrics kinda give me hope that she might come back in a future Cyberpunk DLC or game to finally "make the city burn" as revenge for David and for letting him down when she wasnt strong enough.
When I started watching the show I thought the scenes from the outro were from Lucy’s past; Only after the final episode I realized they were scenes from after the show…
The saddest and most painful part of the ending credits is at 1:15 The way she is pressing hard on her chest from all the pain and screaming… I just can't man… Shit is too depressing The amount of emotional trauma is insane
I think this is what happens just before the last episode, falco and lucy manage to scape and hide, but now she is alone, everyone she cared about is dead, the acts of sadness and depression can be seen in every footage of this ending. Then falco gives her the money and tells her davids last wish, as seen in the last episode. You already know the rest, Lucy goes alone to the moon and this holy masterpiece ends. But what did it cost.
I love how they had the intro being David’s absolute blast of a journey through night city with a pretty chaotic song and then the outro slows down with Lucy in the aftermath of everything that happened in the show. Sort of represents the viewer’s upbeat and happy feelings as the show starts to depression as the show ends. Phenomenal show
You can even interpret the lyrics as David talking to Lucy. The part that the song says “hold on to your wishes if you can’t hold on to me” sounds like David saying that, despite the fact that he is no longer here, Lucy should still try to achieve her dreams. And the next part of the song that says “forgive me for letting you down” sounds like David saying that he’s sorry that he won’t be able to go to the moon with her.
The Ending Credits sequence is honest to god one of the best I’ve ever seen for anime.
Most anime EDs have some happy beats, chill nonsense or some awesome cool spectacle happening with some nice animation, and good beats you wanna vibe with, that I honestly tend to usually just skip over altogether.
THIS ED however… It told a story. A character’s emotions, neon settings depicting the mood and atmosphere of the moment, the haunting sounds of the music that also reflect very well to the characters and events, and how it hints and eventually adds up to something.
And adding how finishing the show and how it re-contextualized that whole ending sequence, makes that ED sequence absolutely crushing.
Mai Yoneyama’s direction here was absolutely stellar, and Dawid’s performance throughout the whole track was breathtaking in really settling you on what kind of emotions it wants you to have on the story.
Well, like ApocalypticHobo said, this scene playing out before us in this Ending Credits is canon – it actually happened right before she decided to go to the moon.
Falco drops her off where she then proceeds to walk the rest of the way in distraught, then smokes a cig, which may I remind everyone she quit doing ever since she fell in love with David.
She then takes an ice bath, probably netrunning to find any information in regards to David, then tosses and turns in distress as her heart further bleeds at the reality that David's really is gone.
She cries as she runs out the bath and proceeds to cry even harder on her window sill with her clenching her knees. After words, she realizes her dream that David made possible for her and runs to the spacestation, then stops to take a final look at the moon with her mind made up to go there.
After that… we carry on with the actual Episode 10 ending, where it shows her on the moon… seeing visualizing him as she remembered him.. smiling, then her smile fading. She takes a deep breath while closing her eyes, then looks towards the sun with an happier smile than the previous as she extends her arms out to feel it.
Just shows you how emotionally damaged she is at his death and having to live with it for the rest of her life.
