Inferior category? Have you seen modern tv Cappy? Nobody wants another version of a detective show, hospital show, fire and rescue show, reality, or remake of something else that was already done without all the wokeness. At the very least the anime medium hasn't gone completely woke and just tries to tell a story without injecting modern politics. Some of the best stories have been told through that medium. Do they have silly things like fan service? Sure, but that's a small price to pay for stories that haven't been co-opted to, as Critical Drinker says, give out "the message".
There are far more interesting ideas for stories from Japan than anything the states or Hollyweird has produced in ages, with the exception of a select few from companies that haven't gone off the rails.
The only thing I can recommend about anime is, find a series or genre you are interested in and try it out. Try Ghost in the Shell (the original animated movie), Bubblegum Crisis (heavily influenced by Blade Runner) for example. Yes, there are great series, very underrated series (Haibane Renmei is one), overrated (Evangelion) and some that are just badly done (Big O).
A lot of the speedy plot is meant to reinforce the "live fast, die young" semi-nihilistic philosophy of the Night City society. The genre in general is a critique of materialism and self-centered life philosophies.
Arron misses the point of the preachy animes. Cyberpunk is literally the dystopian world cappy keeps complaining about. Weak men make inv where you have to save yourself.
Grew up on anime and gotta agree most of it is garbage, but there's some gems out there. Cyberpunk 2077 day 1 fan boi. Hey I was a 20 year old millennial who paid for his first car, manual transmission. Guy who sold it to me asked if I knew how do drive it, I said of course. Lying obviously. Taught myself how to drive it that week though. Cyberpunk and Night City is all about burning out fast, either get crushed by a cyberpsycho or succum to cyberpsychosis.
The show feels more like an ad for Cyberpunk 2077. Most of the scenes in Cyberpunk edgerunners can be visited in the game. I kept noticing locations I’ve been to in the game when I was watching this show. People that haven’t spent a considerable amount of time in the game won’t get that perspective and appreciate it less than others that have played the game. Also, the characters, buildings, gangs, cyber psychosis cases, and augmentations are all in the game, as well.
Everyday that passes and we grow ever closer such a dystopian future. Except a whole lot less cooler. And the only people you can trust are yourself and your chooms.
You watched "Berserk"? Berserk isn't meant to be watched, but read. There's hardly any animated adaption of the manga series that does the source material any justice.

06.06.2023Dawg, you have not watched enough good anime if you think it's inferior to Hollywood or Television.
